About
Tyler Blackburn
After graduating from college with two bachelor’s degrees (English and Creative Writing), I did what every aspiring writer should do: become an industrial mechanic in a paper mill. It was…educational. But I discovered something important; I liked working with my hands. From there, things blossomed. I learned framing carpentry, how to build houses, and finally opened a finish carpentry business in Maine. Things were great, but then the ’08 recession hit. I moved with my wife and brother to Florida. The housing market had crashed, so I transitioned into commercial construction. I worked in highrises and other commercial job sites for almost four years. I became a superintendent for a glass and railing company and traveled around the country. Finally, in 2011 I returned to my finish carpentry roots and opened Blackburn Custom Woodworking.
